2025 Fireworks Event Cancellation

Each year, the Lake Taupo Rotary ‘Big Bang’ fireworks event has been one of Taupo’s very popular iconic events with a large portion of the Taupo community attending. Their families enjoy all elements of the evening including the vendor options, the great music with a feature movie and of course the fireworks display.

 The Lake Taupo Rotary fireworks event is much more than a fireworks display as the event also supports various volunteer groups that help to run the event as a fund raiser to support their own groups, the local food vendors providing great hospitality, the hire companies supplying additional equipment and the local entertainment providers producing a spectacular show before the fireworks display. Lake Taupo Rotary also donates to the local SPCA to assist with any inconveniences during the evening.

 The ‘Big Bang’ fireworks display allows a range of people to experience an affordable evening such as families without their own fireworks, families that want a safe fireworks experience and a venue for the young and old without families to experience the wonderful display in the night sky.

 Lake Taupo Rotary operates the event each year solely on volunteer support and sponsorship, with a significant financial input being required to meet the cost of the venue, the entertainment and the fireworks, with the gate entry fees covering only a portion of the event costs.

 Previously sponsors have provided a significant amount of sponsorship funding to support the cost of the event, as without these sponsors, the event would not be able to occur. Due to the downturn in the economy in 2025, the sponsorship that Lake Taupo Rotary requires for the ‘Big Bang’ fireworks event is not available. It has been confirmed that no funding is available from previous sponsors, Taupo District Council, nor are there any prospective sponsors.

 It is unfortunate that the Lake Taupo Rotary ‘Big Bang’ fireworks event set for 7th November 2025 has now been cancelled as we have been unable to secure a financial package that would see the event break even.

 It is Lake Taupo Rotary’s intention to start seeking sponsorship for the event in November 2026 as the cancellation of this year’s event does not signal the end of the ‘Big Bang’ fireworks.
